On January 1, 2020 I had high hopes for the next decade. If you’re like me you might be stressed by everything that has happened the last three years: the Pandemic, daily warnings about a recession, INFLATION, money, constant political arguing, INFLATION. Not to mention the daily stresses of life (work, kids, keeping up/failing at friendships/family, money, the supper menu.. I could go on and on).
What have you done lately to ease your stress? Here are a few things I’ve done to make daily life easier and more basic:
- Go to the grocery store only once a week, on Thursdays. Thursdays is the day the new grocery ads are released for my stores (Aldi and Giant). I read the ads and only buy what is on sale with the exceptions of staples like milk and dare I say eggs (are they really $5 a dozen right now?!). This has helped lower our weekly grocery bill.
- Plan my meals on Thursday for the next week before I go to the grocery store. I started a shared note with my husband that has a bullet point for each day of the week. This is where I write down the meals and who is responsible for what day. I also added a bullet point for meal ideas in case we run out of ideas because isn’t being married a continuation of asking what’s for dinner over and over until you die?!
- Run all my errands on the same day. In addition to the Thursday grocery store run, I squeeze in my other errands on that day too. I fill up the gas tank, plan doctors visits for Thursdays, pick up prescriptions, do my Target run for diapers or wipes. If we need something after I’ve already gone to the grocery store and ran the errands, then it goes on the shared note next week. It takes discipline but its actually makes life easier because I’m not driving around town grabbing things multiple times a week; plus it leads to less unexpected purchases… bonus!

All the best to you,
